In the vibrant suburbs of southern Stockholm, where creativity flows as freely as coffee in the local cafes, Qcello emerged from a group of childhood friends who shared an unshakeable passion for funk and pop music. Meeting in their high school's music room during lunch breaks, the band members - Erik (vocals/guitar), Marcus (bass), Sofia (drums), and Jonas (keyboards) - found their unique sound through endless jam sessions and a shared love for everything from Parliament-Funkadelic to Swedish pop legends.
The name "Qcello" came from an inside joke during one of their early rehearsals, when Erik's younger sister mistook their electric cello for a "cute cello" - or "Q-cello" as it became known. The name stuck, perfectly capturing their playful approach to serious musicianship.
Growing up in Stockholm's southern districts, the band absorbed the city's rich musical heritage while developing their own distinctive style. Their sound merges the raw energy of funk with infectious pop hooks and a distinctly Scandinavian sense of melody. Regular performances at local venues like Debaser and Pet Sounds Bar helped them build a dedicated following, with their high-energy shows becoming legendary in the local scene.
In 2004, their demo caught the attention of CSR MUSIC and MTA Production, leading to the release of their debut album "As Sweet As It Can Be." The album showcases their ability to craft irresistible grooves while maintaining a sharp edge, with tracks like "Abusive Dude" and "Damn This Situation" demonstrating their knack for combining social commentary with danceable rhythms.
Known for their electric live performances and tight musical chemistry, Qcello has become one of Stockholm's most exciting musical exports. Their fusion of funk, rock, and Swedish pop sensibilities creates a sound that's both familiar and fresh, proving that the spirit of funk is alive and well in the streets of southern Stockholm.
